The LIFE Event (LPGA Pros in the Fight to Eradicate Breast Cancer) mission is to continue to help eradicate breast cancer as a life-threatening disease, while reaching out to a younger generation of women and providing them with information about the importance of early detection and healthy breast care practices.
For more than a decade, The Val Skinner Foundation has promoted these initiatives.
Some of the biggest names from the LPGA will meet at the Mountain Ridge Country Club in West Caldwell, NJ on June 14, 2010 for the eleventh annual LIFE Event, which benefits breast cancer research and advocacy.
Twenty-seven LPGA pros will join event founder and host, LPGA veteran and golf analyst Val Skinner, for the event. Following the pro-am golf outing, a reception will be held to honor the 2010 LIFE Heroes.
LIFE benefits Susan G. Komen for the Cure, the Cancer Institute of New Jersey (CINJ) and the Young Survival Coalition. With The Val Skinner Foundation, these organizations established the Young Women's Initiative, a multifaceted effort organized to educate young women and other audiences about the risk of breast cancer and the importance of early detection. LIFE funds have been utilized to establish programs such as BioCONECT, the Komen On the Go™ Tour and other cancer education research and prevention programs. The LIFE center has established six satellite centers for genetic counseling.
Over the last decade, the LIFE Event has raised almost $6 million for breast cancer awareness and research programs.
