This round of golf is not about the score, it is a gathering of individuals committed to one cause, to eradicate breast cancer. – Beth Daniel, LPGA Hall of Fame Member

The LIFE Event (LPGA Pros in the Fight to Eradicate Breast Cancer) mission is to continue to help eradicate breast cancer as a life-threatening disease, while reaching out to a younger generation of women and providing them with information about the importance of early detection and healthy breast care practices.

For the past decade, The Val Skinner Foundation has promoted these initiatives and will mark the ten year anniversary of this fight against breast cancer at the LIFE Event on May 18, 2009.

The biggest names from the LPGA met May 19 at the Ridgewood Country Club in Paramus, N.J. for the ninth LIFE Event, which benefits breast cancer research and advocacy.

Twenty-three LPGA pros will join event founder and host, LPGA veteran and golf analyst Val Skinner, for the event. The field includes World Hall of Fame members Beth Daniel and Karrie Webb and top ranked players Angela Stanford, Morgan Pressel, Brittany Lincicome, Helen Alfredsson, Christiana Kim and Laura Diaz.

Following the pro-am golf outing, a reception will be held at which the 2009 LIFE Heroes will be honored.

LIFE benefits Susan G. Komen for the Cure, the Cancer Institute of New Jersey (CINJ) and the Young Survival Coalition. With The Val Skinner Foundation, these organizations established the Young Women's Initiative, a multifaceted effort organized to educate young women and other audiences about the risk of breast cancer and the importance of early detection. LIFE funds have been utilized to establish programs such as BioCONECT, the Komen On the Go™ Tour and other cancer education, research and prevention programs.

Over the last decade, the LIFE Event has raised more than $5 million for breast cancer awareness and research programs.
