A nationwide initiative, Komen On the Go is an interactive, mobile tour designed to engage women and men in the fight against breast cancer by driving them toward a better education about breast health and breast cancer and a deeper commitment to practical, everyday health habits that could save their lives.

Coordinated by Susan G. Komen for the Cure and co-founded in 2004 by the Val Skinner Foundation, Komen On the Go features two vehicles that travel to community events and universities across the U.S.

The tour provides a fun, hands-on experience for women and men of all ages. The mobile trailers, dubbed “Big Pink” and “Little Pink,” convert into interactive-learning environments with computer stations, flat-screen televisions featuring inspirational messages and personal videos, self-examination guides, information on how to volunteer locally, registration cards for local Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure events and tips on how to be effective and supportive for loved ones facing breast cancer and more.

At some tour stops, breast cancer survivors and health care professionals are on site to answer questions and share their experiences and knowledge about the disease.

Komen On the Go exhibits also feature eight-foot graffiti walls on which participants can share a memory or pledge support in the fight against breast cancer. At college stops, the signed graffiti walls remain behind to be displayed on campus as a poignant reminder of the role each person plays in saving lives and ending breast cancer.

This year Komen On the Go will be on display for more than 150 days in more than 50 communities from Seattle to Miami. Highlights of the tour include a stop in New York City’s Battery Park and at the Sybase Classic, one of the premier events on the LPGA Tour. Komen On the Go will also be on site for the 2008 LIFE and LIFE in the South Events.

This effort, which was the first of its kind, has already reached thousands of women and men with the potentially life-saving messages driven by the Young Women’s Initiative.
